After a long wait, finally, Tesla finally delivered the Cybertruck pickup truck to the first customers at the end of November.
Since then, the Elon Musk-led automaker has been releasing occasional videos trumpeting the funky-looking electric vehicle in an effort to drum up orders.
The latest of these showcases Cybertruck’s Basecamp tent, which for $2,975 gives you a striking boxy design that’s deliberately based on a pickup truck design.
The video opens with a Cybertruck hurtling through a dramatic landscape that closely resembles parts of Iceland. After parking in a secluded spot, the family emerges from the vehicle to set up the Basecamp tent, though only personal experience will tell if it’s really as easy as it seems here (Tesla says it can be inflated “in minutes” and requires no structural rods).
After picnicking by the water and fishing, the family climbs into the back of the pickup truck, protected by a tent, and settles in for the night. Note: Two adults and one small child seem like the absolute maximum number of people you can fit here.
The next day, the family retires to an apartment for a more comfortable stay, with mother and daughter watching the stars from the comfort of a tent.
The family has been lucky with the weather here, but if it turns bad, you can put on a weatherproof outer shell with a retractable awning for added protection.
The Cybertuck is Tesla’s first pickup, and it starts at $60,990, about $20,000 more than the initial price estimates shared by Musk. A few months before the first deliveries came out in November, reports indicated that pre-orders for the Cybertruck had reached 1.9 million. Early pre-orders could be made by Tesla handing over a $100 refundable deposit, though it recently increased to $250.
WITH more electric sensors coming to the market and the wider EV sector becoming increasingly competitive, Tesla really needs the Cybertruck to succeed. But with mass production of the new pickup not expected until 2025, it looks like it will take some time to realistically establish its true level of popularity.
