While the damage to the Gran Coupe isn’t bad, repairing and repainting it can be an expensive job.
An interesting limited edition, formally named BMW 8X Jeff Koons and derived from the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe with a 523hp supercharged V8, was revealed in early 2022. Limited to just 99 examples worldwide, the US model was priced at $350,000, or $250,000 more than the car, on which it was based.
All the units produced share the same dramatic look, though they certainly won’t appeal to everyone, no BMW art car is special and this creation is no different. After all, painting each unit requires hundreds of hours of detailed work, and that alone makes the car remarkable.
This model was sold through SCA auction with only 11 miles (17.7 km) on the clock. The listing says the car’s primary damage is on the roof, but it’s hard to tell what damage was done in these low-quality images. We can see that the sunroof is open and may have been broken. Some damage was also done to the front right quarter of the car, but it appears relatively minor.
What does the future hold for it? 8-row, Fingers crossed that the new owner will have the front panel and bumper repaired or replaced and the roof repaired before putting the car back on the street.
Of course, repairing or replacing parts for this creation won’t be as easy as any regular car, as only a few examples were made. The bumper and quarter panel will need to be repainted, and to do this the parts will likely have to be returned to Germany, which will no doubt prove to be a very expensive exercise.
It’s not just the wild paint job that makes 8 X Jeff Koons stand out. The cabin features a mix of different colored leathers including royal blue and two tones of red. There is also brown leather on the doors, black leather on the dashboard, brown carpets, and red floor mats.
